In a tribute to Josef Albers’ Homage to the Square, Hermes is releasing a series of limited edition scarves, available in select boutiques. I am so drooling… although for €2000 (!) I don’t think I could bring myself to wear one if I bought it. I’d more likely use it as a piece of wall art. Oh be still my heart…
On a more rational note, there are great options to fit every budget and trend. Scarves are universally popular (and even became a summer staple!) for their ability to add a splash of color and texture to an outfit. You can use them in several ways:
Create a slimming line down the middle of the body: This M by Missoni scarf ($275 at tobi) has warm autumn colors and lurex threads give it a little extra oomph, in keeping with the metallic trend.

Direct attention upwards to the face: this gorgeous Pucci print ($295) will make you stand out in a crowd.

Even bolder prints can be used to accent your purse, or do double duty as a belt: Banana Republic is getting on board with the plaid trend; their silk scarf is only $49.

For a finishing touch, Textere Silk provides an extensive scarf tying guide, complete with step-by-step directions for each knot.
Now go hang out drinking cappuccinos at a sidewalk cafe and see if you don’t feel impossibly chic and European.
Do you think the Hermes scarf is splurgeworthy?
