Another Grocery Outlet find, this French Rabbit Pinot ran me all of $6 (normal retail $10, I believe).

It looked good and smelled good out of the bottle– mainly cherry and berry scents with a little spiciness. Frankly, it was more complex than I’d expect for $6, but it can definitely use some time to breathe. The typical pinot smoothness was marred by the slightly overbearing tannins. While the French Rabbit was too acidic for me as a drinking wine initially, it improved as the night went on. Also good paired with food; it stood up really well to beef stew (and I used it in the sauce to add some depth of flavor).
I’m also intrigued by the fact that French Rabbit now bottles (boxes?) their wine in eco-friendly packaging that also makes it easier to store and transport wine. Quel green solution!
(Previously reviewed: Bad Dog Ranch 2005 Petite Sirah, which I would recommend over this Pinot.)
