Rewards for Work: my ATG gun!
Posted by RenaissanceTrophyWife on January 12, 2009
Apologies in advance– this week will be crazy, so updates will be less frequent. But I’ve planned to reward myself in advance (yeah, I know, très Type A), so this should be on its way to me:
And I started a couple projects this weekend, to be finished with the help of my new toy! Keep a lookout for those to show up in the next week or so.
Why an ATG gun?
I’ve been doing more and more crafting, and adhesive transfer tape rolls are widely recognized to be the most economical adhesive out there— plus it is easy to use and has great staying power. Splitcoaststampers has a lengthy discussion on it here; I thought the feedback on the cheaper gun and tape was great.
Jay at IndigoInklings even put together a comparison chart; you can see that for $1, you get about 12 rolls of Scotch brand ATG tape which can be (conservatively) 3-4x more than you get with other adhesives. Obviously if you pay less for the refills, the price differential becomes even more pronounced. While you do need a dispenser to use the tape, I thought it was a worthwhile investment for my needs.
Why the generic version? Lower price for comparable quality. The Scotch ATG gun is about $45, and most places charge shipping. Plus, the Scotch version comes in 2 different sizes for 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch tape, which seems like overkill. You can use an adapter in the 1/2 inch gun to allow you to use 1/4 inch tape, but that’s another $10. The generic version is versatile and fits both sizes without an adapter needed. My gun plus 12 rolls of tape, shipped, was $43; cheaper than the name brand.
I’ll let you know how my new toy works when I get it! I’m so excited!
